COSC November Oasis News

Message from the President

Dear Nobles and Ladies,

As of last Saturday the 18th, we completed the 60th Annual Food Caravan, and it was outstanding! The only downside was, that most of our caravan had to pass by the scene of an accident which took the lives of 3 out of 4 members of a young family from central Oregon, leaving only their 6 year old son. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. Once we reached Mill City, had lunch and met up with the Al Kader Motor Escort, it was a great trip.

We later combined with the caravan from Hillah Shrine for the first time in many years, and continued on to the Al Kader Center to make our contributions. I was pleased to announce that a combined total contribution from the Central Oregon Shrine Club was $24,900, with our food contribution being $7,900. But the highlight of our contribution came later when Noble Terry Griffith presented a very large check (literally) in the amount of $17,000, which were the net proceeds from the Second Annual Run for a Child event in August! As Terry said, I’m sure this amount will continue to grow for years to come.

Just as a reminder for our November meeting, we will be electing our Officers for 2015, Noble Dale Claypool has been nominated for President, Noble John Pinkney Vice President, Noble Bob Helton Secretary and Noble Ande Stearns Treasurer. We will also be addressing some changes with the Donkey Basketball Game. Apparently, the change we made to our by-laws last month has had some unintended consequences with the monetary outlays that are necessary to proceed in an expeditious manner to put on the Game. Which was, I would like to remind everyone, our clubs major fundraiser for last year!

Thank you and God Bless,

Donkey Basketball Time!

Pull on your jeans and boots, grab your Fez and come out to the Second Annual COSC Donkey Basketball Game. It will be at the Redmond High School on November 22nd beginning at 4:00pm. The teams are again the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office versus the Crook County Sheriff’s Office. It should be a great game and lot of fun.

We need your help to make this happen and be successful. If you can help, please plan on arriving at 3:00pm. This, along with the beef raffle, are the only fundraisers we have and we need to make this successful for our Club to remain solvent.

For questions please contact Ande Stearns.

That famous quote “All the bills are paid” is definitely true for the 2014 Shriners Run For A Child and the chartable report has been forwarded to Al Kader. I am very excited to report that this year’s event netted us $17,000. Above you can see the check that was delivered to the Hospital. Receiving the check is Emily Coleman, with Courtney Ringer (Run Coordinator) and Jason Ringer (Operations Chief). We also had the opportunity to tour the Hospital which both Jason and Courtney found amazing. They are ready for another year!

A formal presentation, was made during the Food Caravan dinner. A plea for support was made and was extremely well received. It is shaping up to have a larger involvement by both Al Kader and Hillah. As hoped, this event is growing by leaps and bounds.
